Been working on this project for Panda, People Acting Now Discover Answers for their upcoming annual event. The client wanted to work around the theme of Fantasia from Disney, the only direction the clients gave us was the title, When you wish upon a star, there's a bit of disconnection between these two directions because the song is from the animation, Pinocchio and these two animations don't have much similarity. So, the initial approach I took was to portray the mood of Fantasia, slightly dark but whimsical and adding in the dreamy/hope elements to bring out the meaning from the title. I decided to work around the background image that had the watercolor effect and use of blue shades to portray night and sky. also built shapes of some of the signature characters and icons from the Fantasy movie to tie the concept. The font used was to mimic the same Fantasia font used in its original design yet slightly different. I had to down play the client's logo but still managed to keep in as one of the main elements throughout the design, gave the panda logo a hat that Mickey mouse wears and a wizard wand so that the logo blends well with the overall look. Multiple layers of the background as well as the overlays enhances the depth and the mystery and dreamy vibe. Since most of the visual designs for this is some what abstract and illustrative, I wanted to keep most of the text and type treatments clean and locked up. In few days I'll have a review with a client, fingers crossed.
